Joshua D. Mosshart idea of Demand-led plans for energy in Cities

It is no secret that Joshua D. Mosshart has been working relentlessly to make sure that the condition of energy-related problems in our world is answered and done away with. In his quest of helping the world, he has written many papers that acknowledge the problem and give possible answers and has even worked with the UN on different occasions.

His work mainly includes understanding the actual problem in our energy-related world and how can we find a way around it. The condition of non-renewable recourses in our world is quite bad. However, Joshua Mosshart has a found a way to make use of energy in cities, which will not only help a city’s power management but will also allow us to save energy.

Here are the things that every government and planner should keep in mind while designing cities that are energy efficient:
Dependence on carbon emissions should be reduced.
The city should make an effort to reduce carbon emissions.
New and clean sources of fuels and energy should be introduced in the cities.
        Promotion of diversification of resources.
Public transport should be developed with cleaner fuels in mind.
Efficient resource planning should be done.

Mosshart’s Demand-led Approach

Since the requirement of efficient and sustainable development of cities is important, it is crucial for the government to know what kind of energy is used by which class of people of segments of the population in the city. It is easy to come across the data about how much oil, electricity, etc. will be required by the city. However, it is not all that simple to find out who uses such energy.

For a government or a city to stand together with sustainable energy use, planning the supply of energy according to the needs of the people is one of the most important things. Supplying energy to those who need the specific kind of energy will not only save a lot of energy and costs but will also allow people to enjoy the benefits of such supply.

The supply-led approach to delivering energy is haphazard and supplies energy anywhere in the city. However, the demand-led approach allows the energy to reach those who need it and minimizes costs and wastage.

For a city to come up with the perfect demand-led approach, the city needs a good database about energy, supply and its use in the city.
